ANATOLIY SHEVCHENKO

NEWS

Guitar Magician

Anatoliy Shevchenko is a real magician in music, a brilliant guitar player, composer, theoretician, essayist and an artist.

Always ready to share his talent with the audience, maestro performs a fascinating variety of different musical works, which give him a perfect chance to express his individuality.

Eight centuries of antic music, nine centuries of European music, music of the New World and East, flamenco music, his own compositions — various epochs, various genres and styles are presented in the performances of a virtuosi musician who is able to connect space and time.

When you listens to the ravishing sounds of his guitar which sings emotionally in the musician’s hands you realize that Shevchenko’s talent is spiritual, though it includes as well hard work and a bit of magic...

Composer

As a talented composer Anatoliy Shevchenko is the author of numerous pieces for a guitar, symphonic poems, cantatas, vocal cycles and concerts for a guitar with an orchestra, experimental music, sonatas and suitas. “Ukrainian suita” is a poem about the Motherland which is presented in the unusual melodies of “Karpatskaya rapsodiya”, “Serenada”, “Capriccio”. “Odessica” suita shows history of the native town in music (pieces “Walking along Deribasovskaya”, “Moldavanka and Peresyp”, “Sounds od Langeron”, “Humourina“...) musucal images of these works transform folk melodies into classical ones.

In 1987 A. Shevchenko became the laureate of the musical contactest “Guitar — Microcosm” which took place in Esterhom. The cycle called “Rosa mientos“ — “A Touch” was noted there. In 1996 this cycle was published in the USA. In 1992 the municipal council of Linaress (Spain) awarded A.Shevchenko with a "Golden Plate” to express their admiration and gratotudefor his fantastic concert in that city. An unexampled case in the music history is demonstrated by a famous Spanish composer Kueika Morales, who used Shevchenko’s melody from “Karpatskaya rapsodiya” as a basic theme for his “Prelude and Fuga”. Anatoliy Shevchenko is the only non Spanish guitarist who improvises in flamenco style.

Indefatigable Researcher

The musical research “Flamenco School” which now is a bibliographic rarity as well as his work “Indomitable Games of Flamenco” published in the 90-ties became the result of Shevchenko”s researches in the sphere of music theory.

Antic music takes an especially important place in Shevchenko’s work. While performing it he proves that this music can bring a lot of enjoyment to a contactemporary listener.

Shevchenko organized spring in Odessa…

And he is going to organize something in spring.

On 30th maestro gave his first anniversary concert from the triptych "Autumn spring songs". In the concert programme there were performed a promenande-concert, a flamenco concert, a ricercare for a violin and a cello, guitar pieces and others. Some portraits of maestro by the artists from Odessa and the Crimea were presented within the concert format. Obviously, it was impossible to present all works of maestro during one night, however the triptych was very impressive.
